The Philippine Under-14 Girls National Team recorded a huge opening win over home team Laos, 3-1, Tuesday, to kickstart their AFC Under-14 Girls Regional Championship campaign at the Chao Anouvong Stadium in Vietiane, Laos.
The Pinay girls were down early, courtesy of a 29th minute penalty conversion from midfielder Laotian Phoutsady Louang Amath. Tides would turn in the second frame, as the Philippines stormed back, with Maria Lazo connecting on the 59th minute equalizer.
Katelyn Alexander found the go-ahead goal in the 68th mark of the match, while Carleigh Frilles delivered the final blow in injury time to make it a 3-1 final tally in favor of the Philippines.
The Philippines now shares the lead with Thailand in Group A of the tournament, which also includes Laos and Cambodia.
Up next for the Pinay girls squad will be a matchup against powerhouse Thailand on Wednesday, June 1.
