The Philippine Under-14 Girls national team just fell short of making history after falling to Thailand in the 2016 AFC U-14 Girls Regional Championship Finals, 1-0, Sunday afternoon at the Chao Anouvong Stadium in Vientiane, Laos.
Thailand's Phattharanit Duangkaew found the eventual game deciding goal early, giving the Thais the 19th minute advantage.
The Filipinas had no answer for the same team that they held to a 2-2 draw earlier in the tournament, as Katelyn Alexander, who scored a brace in their previous meeting, couldn't come up with the same magic. The Philippines settled for a Silver Medal to cap off their terrific AFC Regional Championship campaign.
The Final was a rematch from the 2014 edition of the tournament, which saw the Thais claim their first title with a 2-1 win over the Philippines.
Thailand claimed their second AFC U-14 Girls title, while Thai midfielder Pattaranan Aupchai was named MVP.
In the 3rd Place match, Vietnam defeated Myanmar, 2-1.
Congratulations to our U-14 girls for a terrific run!
