Global FC drops the first leg of the 2016 RHB Singapore Cup Quarterfinals to Tampines Rovers
A couple of second half goals from home Fazrul Nawaz and Hafiz Sujad sealed the deal as Tampines Rovers bested Pinoy club Global FC, 3-1, in the first leg of the 2016 RHB Singapore Cup Quarterfinals, Wednesday evening at the Jurong West Stadium in Singapore.
English striker Billy Mehmet struck early for the three-time Singapore Cup champions, scoring in the 15th minute, but Global skipper Misagh Bahadoran connected on the equalizer a minute before the midgame break.
The second half belonged to the Singaporean club however, as Fazrul broke the deadlock in the 61st minute, followed by Hafiz just eight minutes later to build a comfortable 3-1 advantage.
Global had no answer, as Tampines Rover held on to take the first leg.
The reigning UFL Cup champions will have a chance to bounce back in the second leg, much like they did a year ago, aslo in the quarterfinals against Geylang International.
The second leg is scheduled for Saturday, July 2 at the Jalan Besar stadium in Singapore.
Ceres-La Salle, also in the quarterfinals, will take on Brunei DPMM on Thursday, June 30 at the Jalan Besar stadium.
