Skipper Misagh Bahadoran and the rest of Global FC head back to the Philippines after bowing out of the 2016 RHB Singapore Cup in the quarterfinal round.
There was no comeback this time around for "The People's Club" as Global FC bows out of the 2016 RHB Singapore Cup after losing to Singapore's Tampines Rovers, 5-2 on aggregate, Saturday evening at the Jurong West Stadium in Singapore.
After falling 3-1 in the first leg, still had the chance to bounce back in the second leg and win on aggregate, just like they did last year.
Early on, it looked as if the reigning UFL Cup champions were headed that way, after Japanese midfielder Hikaru Minegeshi hit the opening goal 21 minutes in.
The Tampines Rovers equalizer would come just before halftime however, with Billy Mehmet converting in the 42nd minute.
A draw would not have been enough for Global FC to pull out the aggregate win, but Hafiz Sujad left no doubt for Tampines Rovers, as he found the go ahead goal in the go-ahead goal in the 72nd minute, all but sealing the win for the home team.
Global FC now heads back to Manila, unable to replicate their semifinal finish from last year.
Another Filipino club however is on the verge of cracking the semis, as Ceres-La Salle has a comfortable 3-0 lead over Brunei DPMM on aggregate. They play the second leg on Sunday, July 3.
