Pinoy club Ceres-La Salle FC will get to avenge their Filipino football brothers when they take on Singaporean side Tampines Rovers in the semifinals of the 2016 RHB Singapore Cup semifinals.
Ceres-La Salle earned their spot in the semifinals after defeating Brunei DPMM, 5-2 on aggregate in the quarterfinals, even after dropping the second leg.
Stephan Schrock, the tournament’s leading scorer, netted his fifth goal in three games, giving Ceres-La Salle the lead in the 16th minute.
Spanish winger Bienve Marañon added to the Ceres-La Salle lead in the 53rd minute, but it didn’t take long for Brunei DPMM to get on the board as well, with Shahrazen Said hitting just a minute later.
Things got interesting when Rafael Ramazotti found the equalizer in the 63rd minute.
Brian McLean scored the go-ahead goal for Brunei DPMM in the 90th minute to deliver the second leg victory, but it wasn’t enough on aggregate.
Ceres-La Salle and Tampines Rovers have a bit of history between them, as the two squads were both part of Group E in the 2016 AFC Cup, with Ceres-La Salle scoring a win and a draw in their two group stage matches.
Tampines Rovers eliminated Filipino club Global FC to reach the 2016 Singapore Cup semis.
