Abandoned in an orphanage as a child, Azkals standout Simone Rota now gives back to children who were abandoned and left behind as well.
Philippine Azkals standout Simone Rota has quite the inspiring backstory.
Born in the Philippines and abandoned in an orphanage by his birthparents as a child, Rota was adopted by an Italian couple from Milan.
As Rota grew, he found his passion for football, eventually signing his first professional contract at 17 years old.
Football would bring him back home, as he would be chosen for the Philippine men’s national football team, and would decide to remain in the country.
In 2014, Rota decided to try and search for his birthparents, but the search would prove to be fruitless.
Rota would however find a new, bigger family when he decided to return to the Buklod Kalinga Orphanage, where he was abandoned. Rota has since live in the orphanage and has given back to all the children who, like him, were left without a family.
“I realized I need to give them the opportunities I was lucky enough to get.”
Rota’s story was recently featured on ESPNFC.Com’s Inspiring Bonding Moments, and you can see the whole video below:
