With a little over a month to go before the start of the AFF Suzuki Cup, the Philippine men's national football team hopes to be able to gather momentum before embarking on the Southeast Asian tournament.
Already posting an international friendly win over Kyrgyzstan in early September, the Azkals hope to find similar success when they take on Bahrain on Friday, October 7 and DPR Korea on Monday, October 10.
For Azkals head coach Thomas Dooley, wins over teams like Bahrain and DPR Korea are instrumental for the team as they head to the AFF Suzuki Cup.
"Winning games against Bahrain and North Korea helps us tremendously in self-confidence," Dooley said, via Camille Naredo of ABS-CBN News.
"It should give us confidence going into games, and we are in a position to show them why we are there, and you are over there (in the FIFA rankings)," Dooley added. "If you have this mentality going to those games into the tournament, then you'll be successful."
The hosts Azkals begin the Suzuki Cup on the 19th of November, and they're grouped along with Singapore, Indonesia, and Thailand, three teams that have eliminated them in previous installments of the tournament.
Should the Pinoy side be able to rack up wins in their remaining friendlies, they'll be coming into the tournament with a ton of momentum and confidence, which is important as they get ready to face this tournament's "Group of Death."
The Azkals play Singapore on the opening day of the tournament.
