No dramatic comebacks for Manny Ott and the Azkals this time around.
The Philippine men's national football team was unable to repeat history as they fell to a visiting North Korea side, 1-3, Monday evening at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.
The last time that the Azkals and North Korea met at the Rizal Memorial Stadium, the Azkals mounted a legendary comeback and score the 3-2 victory.
There were no dramatic comebacks on this night.
Much like in the match against Bahrain, the Pinoy side gave up a goal in the early moments, with Pak Kwang Ryong scoring off a header from a goal kick.
With less than ten minutes left in the first half, the visitors struck again, courtesy of a close-range shot from Pak Song Chol in the 37th minute.
The home team came out a lot more aggressive in the second half, with Stephan Schrock pushing the pace for the Azkals.
In the 67th minute, the North Korea would score their third goal of night, courtesy of Jong Il Gwan, who managed to beat Azkals Amani Aguinaldo and Junior Muñoz to get one through Pinoy keeper Roland Muller.
The Azkals remained aggressive and eventually got on the scoreboard thanks to Iain Ramsay, who volleyed the ball over the Korean keeper for the goal.
Schrock nearly assisted on the Azkals second goal after storming down the penalty box and then tipping it back to Manny Ott who rocketed the ball on target. Unfortunately for the Azkals, thr keeper was there to make the excellent save.
Ramsay would provide the lone goal for the Azkals and the visitors would hold on for the win.
With a little less than two months to go before the AFF Suzuki Cup kicks off, the Philippines will get one more chance to pull out a win, as they host Kyrgystan on November 9th.
The last time that the two squads met, the Azkals were able to come away with a 2-1 victory.
