Misagh Bahadoran provided the lone goal as the the Azkals beat Krygyzstan in an international friendly
Misagh Bahadoran broke the deadlock in the second half of action to lead the Philippine Azkals past Kyrgyzstan once again, 1-0, Wednesday evening at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.
Bahadoran also scored during the Azkals' 2-1 win over Krygyzstan in Bishkek last September.
The home side was on the defensive for the majority of the first 45 minutes, with the visitors pushing the tempo of the match.
Fortunately for the Azkals, Kyrgyzstan couldn’t capitalize on their chances, and first half keeper Roland Muller came up with a couple of magnificent saves to keep the scoreboard still at halftime.
With three new faces, including Bahadoran, entering the match in the second half, the Pinoys began to take control of the match, getting more aggressive on offense and testing the Krygyz defensive line.
65 minutes into the match, Bahadoran, who has establshed himself as a definite offensive threat for the Azkals, found the back and give the home team the cushion.
The visitors tried to pull even in the second half, getting some good shots of their own off, but substitute keeper Patrick Deyto also came up with some good saves to preserve the Azkal advantage.
The Azkals manage to come away victorious against the Kyrgyz team for the second time in as many meetings, but more importantly, they break a two-game losing skid, which will be important as they head into the 2016 AFF Suzuki Cup later this month.
"It was a good result" Azkals Assistant coach Chieffy Caligdong said post match. Now the focus shifts to their upcoming opponents. "Ngayon kailangan i-analyze yung mga last games ng Singapore and Indonesia."
Head coach Thomas Dooley added that even though the Azkals were victorious, he hopes to get a little more out of them for the Suzuki Cup.
"We hope to get maybe 20 to 30 percent more from them." Dooley said of the Azkals' performance.
The Azkals open the AFF Suzuki Cup against Singapore on November 19th, followed by Indonesia on the 22nd. They close out the group stage against Thailand on the 25th.
All Azkals matches will be played at the Philippine Sports Stadium in Bocaue, Bulacan.
