The Philippine Azkals manage to hold 2012 Suzuki Cup champions Singapore to a scoreless draw, Saturday evening
The Philippine Azkals survived their first test of the 2016 AFF Suzuki Cup, holding Singapore to a scoreless draw, Saturday evening at the Philippine Sports Stadium in Bocaue, Bulacan.
The home side had a number of chances in the opening half, with Stephan Schrock and Kevin Ingreso unable to convert.
With Singapore reduced to ten men late in the first half, the Azkals tried to capitalize, but to no avail.
More of the same in the second half, with the Azkals getting more chances, but still unable to find the back of the net.
Not even five additional minutes could lead to a goal for both sides, as the match ended in a scoreless draw.
Both sides escape with a point after day one of the Suzuki Cup.
On the other side of the group, Thailand put a drubbing on Indonesia, 4-2, led by a hat trick from Teerasil Dangda.
The War Elephants now hold the top spot in Group A with one win ans three points, the Philippines ans Singapore sit in the middle of the pack with one draw and one point each, while Indonesia finds themselves in last place with no wins and no points.
Indonesia will be next up for the Azkals on Tuesday at 8:00 PM, still at the Philippine Sports Arena in Bulacan.
