Misagh Bahadoran and Global FC are two wins away from qualifying for the AFC Champions League
One of the Philippines' top football clubs continues to impress, as Global FC advanced into the second preliminary round of the AFC Champions League following a 2-0 win over Singapore's Tampines Rovers, Tuesday evening at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.
Ahmad Azzawi and Misagh Bahadoran led the offensive charge for The People's Club, scoring a goal apiece in the second half.
The visiting Rovers had a chance to pull one back late after the home side conceded a penalty opportunity, but Global keeper Patrick Deyto came up big, rejecting the penalty attempt from Khairul Amri.
The win pushes Global FC into the next round of the AFC Champions League prelims, where they're set to face off with three-time A-League champions Brisbane Roar FC.
Should Global FC get past the Australian club, they face one more hurdle in decorated Chinese club Shanghai Shenua before being able to break into the AFC Champions League Round of 16.
Global FC meets Brisbane Roar next Tuesday, January 31 at the Suncorp Stadium in Milton, Queensland.
