Philippines Football League kicks off May 6th

When one door closes, another one opens, and such was the case for Philippine club football, as the United Football League or UFL closed shop in 2016, paving the way for the birth of the Philippines Football League or PFL.
The Philippines Football League staged their formal launching last April 21, Friday, with eight Filipino clubs competing in the league's inaugural season starting Saturday, May 6th.
The league will have a more country-wide feel, as the eight teams will be representing different major cities and or provinces in the Philippines.
“We are bringing the passion and the love for the Beautiful Game to different parts of the country with the PFL,” said Philippine Football Federation President Nonong Araneta.
“This is a dream come true for all of us involved in this project. We appreciate the time, effort and resources put in by the clubs to make the PFL possible. We’ve taken the next step for Philippine football.” Araneta added.
The eight football clubs participating in the PFL's historic first season will be
Global Cebu FC
Kaya FC Makati
FC Meralco Manila
Stallion Laguna FC
JPV Marikina FC
Ilocos United FC
Davao Aguilas FC
The tournament format will consist of a home-away double round robin format.
The PFL will also be the basis for international competitions such as the AFC Cup and the AFC Champions League.
Kaya FC Makati will defend home-pitch on the first match day when the meet Ceres-Negros FC at the University of Makati football pitch on May 6th, while Stallion Laguna FC hosts FC Meralco Manila in Biñan.
Sunday, May 7 action features Ilocos United FC hosting Davao Aguilas FC at the Quirino Stadium in Bantay, Ilocos Sur, while JPV Marikina plays Global Cebu FC at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium.
