It was a couple of painful late goals from Home United in injury time that spelled the difference, as Filipino club Global Cebu FC bowed out of the 2017 AFC Cup, Tuesday evening at the Jalan Besar Stadium in Singapore.
With Global settling for a 2-2 draw at home in the first leg of their ASEAN Zonal Semis series against the Singaporean club, the Pinoy side needed to churn out a win on enemy territory.
Early on, it looked as if that would be the case, as Global took the early lead, courtesy of a sixth minute penalty conversion from Kemy Agustien.
Home United's Song Ui-young helped the home team pull even in the 36th minute.
Shu Sasaki opened the second half with a goal to put the visitors ahead once again, and managed to hold on to the advantage until the late moments of the match.
That was when everything went downhill for Global.
The Pinoy side, who were playing without starting defender Amani Aguinaldo, was left with ten men at around the 71st minute after Dennis Villanueva was sent off with a red card.
With a minute left in regulation, Home United hit an equalizer once again, courtesy of striker Stipe Plazibat.
In the fourth minute of injury time, Plazibat struck again, giving Home United their first lead of the match, and shutting the door on Global Cebu's chances of advancing.
Home United moves on to the Zonal Finals after winning 5-4 on aggregate.
