Phil Younghusband and the Philippine Azkals take on China in an international friendly match in Guangzhou
After a little over two months off, the Philippine men's national football team heads back to the pitch and back to work as they take on China PR in an international friendly match, Wednesday evening at the Tianghe Stadium in Guangzhou, China.
The Philippines and China have a bit of history, with the two nations having faced off one the pitch seventeen times before, with the powerhouse China winning 15 of those matches. It has been quite a while since they've last shared the field however, over seventeen years ago, to be exact, with their last meeting happening way back in January of 2000 in the AFC Cup. China won that meeting, 8-0.
That's all in the past however, as a new and more dynamic Azkals squad tries to snap a 12-match losing streak against the Dragons.
Ranked 82nd in the world according to FIFA, China is coming off a loss to Iran back in March.
This will serve as a tune-up for the Azkals, who resume their AFC Asian Cup qualifiers campaign six days later when they head to the Pamir Stadium in Dushanbe for a match against Tajikistan.
The Azkals are coming off a 4-1 win over Nepal, also last March. A win against China will surely provied the Pinoys with a tremendous shot of confidence as they battle for a spot in the 2019 AFC Asian Cup.
Kickoff time is at 7:35 PM.
