Filipino club Ceres Negros FC failed to advance past the preliminary round of the 2017 RHB Singapore Cup, falling to Hougang United, 1-0, Tuesday evening at the Hougang Stadium in Singapore.
A 77th minute goal from Antoine Viterale spelled the difference, as the home team advances to the quarterfinals, where they await the winner of the preliminary round matchup between Balestier Khalsa and Cambodian club Nagaworld.
Ceres isn't the only Pinoy club competing in the annual tournament this year, as Global Cebu FC will also see action when they take on Geylang International at the Jalan Besar Stadium, Wednesday evening.
Should Global win, they advance to the quarterfinals, where they'll be taking on Boeung Ket Angkor, another Cambodian squad.
Global has been competing in the Singapore Cup since 2013, going as far as the semifinals back in 2015. Last year, Global reached the quarterfinals before being sent back by eventual finalists Tampines Rovers.
Ceres on the other hand, made their Singapore Cup debut last year, reaching the semifinals before also being sent home by Tampines.
Albirex Niigata Singapore are on a quest for their third straight Singapore Cup championship.
