Former National University striker Paolo Salenga scored a brace, while skipper Misagh Bahadoran added a goal of his own as Filipino club Global Cebu FC took down Cambodia's Boeung Ket Angkor, 3-1, in the first leg of the 2017 RHB Singapore Cup Quarterfinals, Tuesday evening at the Jalan Besar Stadium in Singapore.
Known for his scoring prowess, even back in his collegiate days, Salenga did what he does best and struck early for the Pinoy side, scoring just seven minutes into the match.
National team standout Bahadoran doubled the Global Cebu advantage, finding the back of the net just before halftime.
The Cambodian side would finally get on the board in the second half after striker Khoun Laboravy made good on a penalty attempt.
A 68th-minute conversion, again from Salenga, gave the Pinoys some cushion and they ultimately held on to the lead for the victory.
The Pinoy side heads to the second leg this coming August 11th with a comfortable two-goal advantage, and will look to close Boeung Ket out and advance to the semis, where they will face either Singapore's Hougang United, or Cambodia's Nagaworld.
