For the second time in as many meetings, the Philippine Azkals have managed to come up with an equalizer and Yemen to a draw, this time a 1-1 stalemate in their 2019 AFC Asian Cup qualifiers Group F match in Doha, Qatar.
After a scoreless first half that saw Yemen come close to scoring on a couple of occassions, only to be denied by the cross bar, Tawfik Ali found the back of the net to give the Yemeni side a 63rd minute lead.
Just like their first meeting back in September, wherein brothers Phil and James Younghusband both scored a couple of game-tying goals to force a stalemate, the visiting Pinoy side once again found a way to remain unbeaten.
In literally the last minute, facing a 0-1 deficit, and the risk of losing the the top spot in Group F, it was young Mike Ott who played the hero for the Azkal this time around.
With the attack coming from the right side of the pitch, a series of passes led to Ott, who was inside the penalty box, firing off the 89th minute goal for the tie and ultimately come away with the draw.
As it stands, the Azkals remain atop the Group F standings, inching closer to an AFC Asian Cup berth with 8 points on two wins and two draws.
Yemen remains in close second with 6 points on a win and three draws.
Next up for the Azkals will be a trip to Kathmandu on November 14th for their second-leg meeting against Nepal.
The Azkals took the first round meeting, 4-1 at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium last March.
