The Philippine Azkals opened their Chinese Taipei Football Association (CTFA) International Tournament campaign with a bang, taking down Laos, 3-1, Friday afternoon at the Municipal Stadium in Taipei.
Team captain and all-time leading scorer Phil Younghusband added to his growing list of international goals to open things up, scoring in the 35th minute, scoring off a hand-off from brother James for a 1-0 Azkals lead heading into halftime.
Returning veteran Angel Guirado kicked the second half off with another conversion for the Azkals, running through the Laos defense for the tough strike.
The Azkals extended their lead to three late in the second half thanks to a goal from University of the Philippines standout King Miyagi, but Laos managed to avoid the shutout with a conversion in injury time.
Next up for the Azkals will be a match against hosts Chinese Taipei on Sunday, December 3, 7:00 PM, also at the Municipal Stadium.
They close out their campaign against Timor-Leste in Tuesday, December 5th at 4:00 PM.
