College of St. Benilde destroyed Emilio Aguinaldo College with an emphatic 11-1 victory in 93rd NCAA seniors football.
College of St. Benilde waylaid a hapless Emilio Aguinaldo College side, 11-1, to zoom to the top spot even as Arellano University pulled the rug from under reigning titlist San Beda, 2-1, to jump to No. 2 in the 93rd NCAA seniors football competition at the Rizal Memorial pitch Thursday night.
Prolific pair Vincent Erik Lovitos and Daniel Caesar Liozo each unleashed a hat trick in the first half alone to help propel the Blazers to the solo lead with 10 match points on three victories and a draw.
Renz Joseph Tulayba contributed a brace while Nicolas Ryan Cruz, Miguel Alfonso Artillera and Moisel Angelo Alforque scored the other goals for CSB, which bounced back from a scoreless draw with Lyceum of the Philippines University Tuesday.
The Generals prevented a shutout with Luther John Contreras coming through in injury time.
The day, however, belonged to AU, which battled its way back from a one-goal deficit to snatch a win on injury time goals by Roberto Corsame and Charles Gamutan.
Mark Anthony Magtoto scored on the 61st minute and San Beda appeared to have secured the win after preserving the load going into extra time.
But it was not to be as Corsame blasted one on the 91st minute and Gamutan followed it up with the match-clinching goal two minutes, triggering a frantic celebration for the Chiefs.
It was the Red Booters’ first defeat after hurdling their first two assignments.
San Beda, which has won 14 of the last 16 NCAA seasons, fell to No. 3 with six points, two points ahead of LPU, which edged Perpetual Help, 1-0, on a goal by Levi Malihan.
