San Beda one win away from back-to-back jrs. football title
Graduating Red Cub Jimmar Castillo scored a brace to help San Beda down CSB-LSGH and inch closer to back-to-back NCAA juniors football titles.

Defending NCAA juniors football champions San Beda College used an early second-half blitz to come back and defeat CSB-LSGH, 2-1, Friday afternoon at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium.

LSGH was getting the better chances early in the match, and came very close to getting a quick 1-0 lead after San Beda committed a foul inside the penalty box.

Loyd Soco was tasked to take the Penalty Kick, but missed out on scoring after sending it straight to Red Cubs keeper Jessie Semblante’s mitts.

The Greenies ended up getting on the board first anyway, after striker Vin Dela Cruz found the back of the net in the 33rd minute.

It was all San Beda in the second half however, as the defending champs turned the match around in a matter of seven minutes.

Jimmar Castillo scored the equalizer in the 47th minute, and then doubled up in the 54th minute to give the Red Cubs a 2-1 advantage.

The Taft-based side pushed hard to pull even, but couldn’t manage an equalizer of their own as the Red Cubs held on for the win.

"Nagpapasalamat ako kasi nakuha namin yung laro ngayon, napanalo po namin," Castillo told ABS-CBN Sports after the match.

Castillo, who was booked with a red card in the first half, will be missing out on match two of the finals.

"Sa next game sana paghusayan pa nila yung paglalaro, kasi hindi na kami makakalaro, dalawang player po yung hindi makakalaro."

Castillo, who may have played his final game as a Red Cub, hopes that the defending champions do get to close out the series in just two matches.

"Sana po ipanalo nila yung next game namin, para wala na pong hirap na susunod na game, para hindi na kami mahirapang kunin yung championship."

Match two takes place on Monday, January 15th, at 4:00 PM, also at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium.
