College of Saint Benilde lives to fight one more day as they defeated Arellano University, 4-3 on penalties, Monday evening at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium to force a do-or-die match for the NCAA Season 93 men's football title.
The Chiefs needed just one more win to regain the title, and early on it looked as if they were on their way after Cyril Sanquilos scored the opening goal in the seventh minute of action.
It wasn't until midway through the second half that CSB found their equalizer, courtesy of Major Dean Ebarle's 61st minute conversion.
Much like match one, 90 minutes wasn't enough to decide a winner and an additional 30 minutes of extra time was needed.
Still, neither side managed a go-ahead goal in extra time, sending the match into a penalty shootout.
With both teams even at 3-3, Patrick Bernarte had a golden chance to put the Chiefs one step closer to a win, but ended up sending his attempt sailing above the crossbar.
The game-winning penalty came from third-year winger Moiselle Alforque, who sent the ball past Chiefs keeper Jericho Desalisa.
"Sobrang nakaka-nervous yung penalty," Alforque said after giving his Blazers one more chance at hoisting the title. "Sadyang blessing lang talaga po na naka-bawi kami sa penalties."
The third and final match is set for Wednesday, January 17th, 6:00 PM, also at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium.
