Bacolod squad Ceres-Negros FC will face Burmese squad Shan United in the Preliminary round of qualifying of the AFC Champions League on Tuesday, January 16 in Yangon, Myanmar.
The Negros club will join the continental competition for the first time and will face the 2017 Myanmar National League champions. Ceres-Negros has retained its core for the 2018 season which will feature the likes of Stephan Schrock, Bienvenido Maranon, and Manny Ott.
Qualifying to the tournament's group stage is largely difficult as it will require Ceres-Negros to beat Shan United, Brisbane Roar, and Tianjin Quanian in three consecutive matches.
Global FC became the first Filipino club in the elite competition after they beat Singaporean club Tampines Rovers in the first round in 2017. They met Brisbane Roar in the second round and were eliminated in the playoff game in Australia.
Kickoff is set at 4:00 PM (5:30 PM PH time) with the game streamed live at the Pyone Play Facebook page.
