The Philippine Women’s National Football Team begins their road to the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup on Friday when they open their AFC Women’s Asian Cup Campaign against host-nation Jordan at the Amman International Stadium.
It will be the Malditas’ first of three matches in Group A of the tournament’s Group Stage, as they try to fight for at least a runner-up finish in the group.
It won’t be easy however, as they’re grouped with Jordan, and former champions Thailand and The People’s Republic of China.
A runner-up finish sends the Malditas to the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup in France.
“The first game against Jordan is naturally a very important one, as a victory would make things much easier for us going into our second match (against China),” said Philippines head coach Rabah Benlarbi.
“For my team it is of course good to have no pressure, and we will focus on what we have been preparing before coming to Jordan.” Coach Benlarbi added.
The last time that the Philippines and Jordan crossed paths on the pitch was back in the Asian Cup Qualifiers, with Jordan winning 5-1 in Dushanbe, Tajikistan.
