The Philippine Women's National Football team opened their 2018 AFC Asian Cup campaign in a big way after beating host-nation Jordan, 2-1 at the Amman International Stadium, Saturday morning Manila time.
Sarina Bolden provided the go-ahead-conversion in the 76th minute of action, beating her defender and firing from just inside the box and propelling the Malditas to a rousing tournament-opening victory.
It was the hosts that took control early of the match however, with Maysa Jbarah finishing a well-timed volley in the 15th minute.
The Philippines was able to pull even early in the second half, with help from Jordan's Yasmeen Khair after she deflected a Bolden header into her own goal at the 51st minute.
The Malditas pick up the maximum three points on opening day, joining China PR at the top of Group A.
Up next for the Philippines will be China PR at the King Abdullah II Stadium in Amman on Monday evening, Manila time.
