The Philippine Women's National Football Team suffered their first setback in the 2018 AFC Women's Asian Cup after falling to China PR, 3-0, at the King Abdullah II Stadium in Amman, Jordan, Monday evening, Manila time.
The Malditas tried to build off the momentum coming from their opening day win against host-nation Jordan last week, but it was China who got on the board first, with Li Ying cleaning up near the goal in the 17th minute of action.
Ma Jun went on to double China's lead in the 31st minute after blasting one in from the just inside the box off a clearance attempt.
The Philippines tried to regroup and respond in the second half, but the eight-time Women's Asian Cup champions were simply dictating the pace of the match.
In the 57th minute, Li Ying put an exclamation point on the win after finishing off a cross coming from the left side for her second goal of the match to make it a 3-0 lead.
The victory gives China their second win in as many matches, and effectively puts them through to the next round, and more importantly secures their spot in the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup in France.
The Philippines, who drop to a win and a loss, can clinch their spot in the Women's World Cup with a win in their final Group Stage match agaisnt Thailand on Friday morning, Manila time.
