In the final matchday of the English Football League Championship, the second-highest football league system in England, Etheridge and Cardiff City managed a scoreless draw against Reading to close out at 90 points on 27 wins, nine draws, and ten losses, good for a runner-up finish.
As a result, Cardiff City and champions Wolverhampton have been promoted to the Premier League beginning the 2018-2019 season which kicks off on August.
It has been quite the year for the Etheridge, who earlier this year made history with the Azkals after clinching a historic maiden trip to the AFC Asian Cup in 2019.
Now, the Fil-British keeper will be plying his trade in English football's highest stage.
"The team was strong all year, and the way that we did is fantastic." said Etheridge. "There’s not many words you can say, really, it’s just amazing."
Etheridge had an impressive nineteen clean sheets for Cardiff City in the 2017-2018 EFL Championship season.
With already an amazing year so far, Etheridge now looks forward to the Premier League as well as the upcoming AFF Suzuki Cup with the Philippine Azkals in November before they embark on their AFC Asian Cup campaign starting January of 2019.
Congratulations and job well done, Neil!
