Philippine Azkals reach highest world ranking in FIFA
Phil Younghusband and the Philippine Azkals soar to 111th in the world.
A month after reaching their highest world ranking in team history, the Philippine Azkals go up even higher in the latest FIFA World Football Rankings.
From their historic 113th ranking a month ago, the Azkals now find themselves two spots higher at 111th, setting a new team-best FIFA ranking.
Welcome news for the Azkals, who now focus on their preparations for the upcoming AFF Suzuki Cup in December and the 2019 AFC Asian Cup in January.
Ranked as the second-best football nation in Southeast Asia, the Azkals have a perfect platform in the AFF Suzuki Cup and the AFC Asian Cup to cement their status as a Southeast Asian football powerhouse, or even reclaim their standing as the top football nation in the Southeast Asian region. Currently, Vietnam, ranked 102nd, is the top football nation in Southeast Asia.
Currently, the Azkals are the 19th-best nation in the Asian Football Confederation. IR Iran, ranked 36th, remains the best in Asia.
In the global rankings, Germany still sits at the top, while Brazil, Belgium, Portugal, and Argentina round out the top five.
