Malditas take down Singapore, U-19 team falls to Vietnam in AFF competitions

After an opening day loss to Myanmar, the Philippine Women's National Team bounced back by dismantling Singapore, 3-0 in the 2018 AFF Women's Championships, Wednesday evening at the Jakabaring Stadium in Palembang, Indonesia.
Joyce Semacio opened the scoring in the sixth minute for the Malditas, before getting some unexpected help from the Singaporeans after an own goal from Nur Umairah in the 60th minute.
Quinley Quezada sealed te Philippine win after making it three goals for the Pinay in the 77th minute.
With the win, the Philippines moves up to third place in Group B, just behind Vietnam and Myanmar.
The Pinays will be gunning for at least a second-place finish in the group in order to advance to the knockout stages.
Up next for the Philippines willl be a showdown with Vietnam on Saturday, July 7th.
Elsewhere in Indonesia, the U-19 Men's Philippine National Team suffered their first defeat in the AFF U-19 Championships after getting blasted by Vietnam, 5-0.
The Pinoys are coming off a 2-1 win over Singapore last July 3rd.
Le Van Nam and Le Minh Binh both scored braces, while Nguyen Huu Thang added a goal of his own to dispatch the Pinoy side at the Gelora Delta Stadium in Sidoarjo.
The Philippines takes a big tumble down to fourth place with three points, behind hosts Indonesia, Vietnam, and Thailand.
Much like the Malditas, the U-19 men will also need to aim for at least a second-place finish in Group A in order to advance to the knockout stages.
The Pinoys try to bounce back on Thursday, July 5th when they take on hosts Indonesia.
