Azkals team manager Palami addresses Butcher's resignation
“As manager of the National Team, I was looking forward to working with Mr Butcher as we build a strong team for the country's first Asian Cup. It is unfortunate, however, that Mr Butcher had expressed difficulty in executing his plans for the national team program.”

Philippine Azkals team manager Dan Palami has mirrored the statement given by the Philippine Football Federation regarding the unexpected withdrawal of newly-appointed head coach Terry Butcher.

Butcher, who was introduced as the new head coach of the Philippine Azkals in early-June, announced his resignation early Friday morning, Manila time, via UK-based Press Association.

"We understand and respect Mr Terry Butcher's decision not to continue with his role as National Team coach of the Philippines.” Palami said via a press release.

“As manager of the National Team, I was looking forward to working with Mr Butcher as we build a strong team for the country's first Asian Cup. It is unfortunate, however, that Mr Butcher had expressed difficulty in executing his plans for the national team program.” Palami continued.

During Butcher’s introduction back in June, Palami told ABS-CBN Sports that he hoped that the arrival of Butcher would ‘re-energize’ the Philippine Azkals as they prepared for a pair of important international tournaments, the 2018 AFF Suzuki Cup in November to December of 2018, and the 2019 AFC Asian Cup, which begins in January of 2019.

“I expect him to bring new energy, his leadership when he was a player and as a coach in his clubs will be infectious and will give the players the high that’s needed, rejuvenate them and get them to prove themselves in the competitions that are about to come.” Palami said.

Palami added that Scott Cooper, the Azkals’ Senior Football Adviser will be taking over for the time being.

‘In the meantime, Scott Cooper will be handling the team as we start with our preparations for the different competitions that we will embark on."

The journey continues for the Azkals, who are about to begin preparations for their upcoming tournaments.

“We remain focused on getting the best preparation for the AFF Suzuki Cup and the AFC Asian Cup.”

“We wish Mr Butcher well in his future endeavors.” Palami added.
