Days after announcement of their upcoming international friendlies in Bahrain this September, the Philippine Azkals are at the center of some shocking developments as newly-introduced head coach Terry Butcher has withdrawn from his post as the team's mentor.
Butcher, who was introduced as the Philippine National Team's new head coach in early June, was a former England football captain and long-time coach.
The 59-year old took the place of former Azkals head coach Thomas Dooley.
Butcher announced his decision a statement told to Press Association, a UK-based media company.
"I'm sorry to announce that I will not be proceeding in the role as head coach of the Philippines National Football Team." Butcher said.
"The vital issue for myself was to carefully build a robust plan to meet the football ambitions of the national team and 'do the country proud.' Regretfully, I've not been able to make this work in the way that I intended, and I've decided not to continue in this role."

The scheduled international friendlies between a Bahraini football club team and the Bahrain National Football Team would have marked Butcher's debut for the Azkals.
With roughly four months to go before they begin their AFF Suzuki Cup campaign in late November, the Azkals now find themselves in quite the situation.
