Philippine Azkals goalkeeper Neil Etheridge made history Saturday by becoming the first Filipino and first Southeast Asian player to play in the English Premier League.
Etheridge got the start in his EPL debut as his club team Cardiff City FC figured in a season-opening 0-2 loss to A.F.C. Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium in Bournemouth, England.
It was a rocky start for Etheridge after conceding a goal in the 24th minute courtesy of a Ryan Fraser strike.
Ten minutes later, Etheridge got to show off what he's capable of doing as he came up with a fantastic save of Callum Wilson's penalty attempt to keep the Cardiff City deficit at just one goal.
Wilson would have the last laugh however, as he did wind up doubling Bournemouth's lead in injury time.
It was Cardiff City's return to the top tier of English Football after spending the last couple of seasons playing in the English Football League Championship.
In the 2017-2018 EFL Championship season, Cardiff City earned promotion into the EPL after finishing with the second-best record.
Up next for Etheridge and Cardiff City is a showdown against Newcastle next Saturday.
