The Azkals move up in the FIFA World Football Rankings
The Philippine Azkals have move one spot up in the September edition of the FIFA World Football Rankings.
After reaching an all-time best 111th world ranking back in May, the Philippine Men's National team, mostly due to inactivity, dipped to 115th for June and August before bouncing back up to 114th in the latest released rankings.
The Pinoy side remains the second-best Southeast Asian football nation, behind 102-ranked Vietnam. They are also the 21st-best team in the Asian Football Confederation.
The Azkals are coming off a 1-1 draw against Bahrain in an international friendly in early September, which marked the coaching debut of Scott Cooper, following the sudden withdrawal of Terry Butcher.
The coming months will prove crucial for the Azkals, as they prepare to embark on a pair of major tournaments, namely the AFF Suzuki Cup starting November of 2018 and the AFC Asian Cup on January of 2019.
A successful run in both tournaments could lead to an even higher leap in rankings for the Azkals.
