AFF Suzuki Cup: Philippine Azkals begin semis against Vietnam

The Philippine Men's National Football Team will look to gain an early advantage when the welcome Vietnam to the Panaad Park and Stadium in BNscoloc for the first leg of the 2018 AFF Suzuki Cup Semifinals, Sunday evening.
After a promising group stage campaign that saw the Azkals finish with two wins and two draws for eight points, good for second place in Group B, behind defending champions Thailand.
Now, the Azkals look to earn a crucial win at home against the top seed in Group A, Vietnam.
The 2008 champions finished their group stage campaign with three wins and a draw for ten points.
The Azkals and Vietnam have had some history in the AFF Suzuki Cup, with their last four meetings taking place in the biennial South East Asian tournament.
In those four meetings, the Azkals have prevailed twice, back in 2010 and 2012.
The last time that these two sides shared the pitch was back in 2014, when Vietnam defeated the Philippines, 3-1 in the group stages.
As an added challenge to the Pinoy side, they will be playing without the services of first-stringers Neil Etheridge, Daisuke Sato, and Patrick Strauss, all due to club commitments.
