The Philippine Men's National Football Team suffered another loss, falling to China PR 2-0 in their 2019 AFC Asian Cup Group C matchup, Friday evening in Abu Dhabi.
As was expected, the higher-ranked China PR side dictated the pace of the match, controlling possession and getting more chances.
Much like they did against South Korea however, the Azkals stood their ground and were solid defensively in the early part of the first half.
Striker Wu Lei was able to breach the Azkals defense however, launching from just outside the box to put China PR ahead, 1-0 in the 40th minute.
The Azkals had a golden chance to equalize late in the first half, but simply could not convert.
In the second frame, the Azkals again looked to pull even, but instead it was China who found the back of the net once more, with Wu Lei doubling up in the 66th minute to make it 2-0.
With less than ten minutes left, super-sub Yu Da Bao came in and made it 3-0 for China with a header off a corner kick to all but seal the win.
With the loss, the Azkals are hard-pressed to win their final Group Stage matchup against Kyrgyzstan on January 16th.
China, meanwhile, secures their spot in the next round of play.
