OJ Porteria scored a brace while Bienve Marañon added one more goal to help Filipino football club Ceres Negros defeat Myanmar's Shan United, 3-2, in their 2019 AFC Cup opener, Tuesday evening at the Panaad Park and Stadium in Bacolod.
Porteria struck first for the Filipino football club, scoring just 19 minutes into the match, before Marañon doubled the home side's lead in the 37th minute via a penalty conversion.
The visiting side attempted to mount a comeback in the second half, with Zin Min Tun pulling one back in the 50th minute.
Porteria scored again in the 87th minute to add some more separation between the two sides.
That two-goal advantage didn't last long for Ceres Negros, Dway Ko Ko Chit responded a minute later to make things interesting in the final stretch.
Ceres Negros ultimately prevented another conversion from Shan United to hold on to the win and get their first win in the 2019 AFC Cup tournament.
The two-time PFL champions currently sit atop the Group H standings with a win and three points.
