A pair of own goals spelled doom for the Philippine Women's National Football Team, as they fell 4-2 to Chinese-Taipei in the 2020 AFC Women's Olympic Qualifiers, Saturday at the Grand Hamad Stadium in Doha, Qatar.
The Filipinas actually got off to scorching start, as they managed to build a 2-0 lead just before halftime, courtesy of goals from Joyce Semacio and Patricia Tomanon in the 13th and 32nd minutes respectively.
In th final minute of the first half, the Taiwanese squad pulled one back thanks to a penalty conversion from Michelle Pao.
The second half was nothing but disastrous for the Philippine team, as an own goal from Tomanon helped Chinese-Taipei pull even in the 48th minute.
The Filipinas again provided some unintented assistance, as Alesa Dolino also committed an own goal to push the Taiwanese side ahead, 3-2.
The final blow came from Ting Chi in the 87th minute to push the Chinese-Taipei advantage to 4-2.
With the loss, the Philippines falls to one win and one loss for three points, while Chinse-Taipei tightens their hold at the top spot with two wins in two matches for six points.
The Philppines still has a chance to capture the top spot with a win over already-eliminated Palestine to close out the Second Round. The Philippines will need to win by a very large margin however, to make up for the deficit in goal difference.
