The inaugural Philippine Premier League season unfolds on Saturday, April 27 with two exciting football matches at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium.
At 4:00 pm Globe Green Archers United FC faces off against Mendiola FC 1991. Then in the 7:00 pm match, Kaya FC-Iloilo takes on Philippne Air Force FC.
Admission will be free for all spectators for this opening match day.
"We can't wait for the action to start. The fans deserve great games and I'm sure that's what we will get," says PPL commissioner Bernie Sumayao.
Green Archers are eager to get their season off to a good start after capturing the WFL Elite crown last year. Striker Jimuel Ariola will look to find the back of the net for the Archers.
Mendiola, composed of many former San Beda University standouts, looks to spring a surprise. Jim Ashley Flores aims to impress after a solid preseason that saw him grab a hat trick against Air Force in a friendly.
Kaya have been impressive in the 2019 AFC Cup, with a win and two draws against a solitary loss in Group H. Jovin Bedic and Jordan Mintah look to get on the scoresheet for Noel Marcaida’s squad.
Standing in their way will be an Air Force team that looks to end their hiatus from top-flight football in winning fashion. 45-year old forward Yanti Barsales is the captain, but Mark Ferrer is also a dangerman for the Airmen.
Also expected to join this year's PPL are Ceres-Negros FC, who have been doing the Philippines proud in the AFC Cup. It is hoped that Global Makati FC and Stallion Laguna FC will join the league pending compliance with the necessary requirements.
The Philippine Premier League is the new top tier of men's senior football in the Philippines. It is a professional football competition that also serves as the country's qualifier for AFC club competitions.
