The Philippine Men's National Football Team started strong and never looked back as they dismantled Guam, 4-1, in their 2022 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers matchup at the Guam F.A. National Training Center in Dededo, Tuesday afternoon.
Much like in their opening matchup against Syria, the Philippine Azkals got on the board within the first ten minutes of the match. This time it was Angel Guirado who struck early for the Pinoy side, scoring off a header in the 6th minute.
It didn't take long for the Azkals to double up, as Patrick Reichelt made it 2-0 in just the 12th minute.
After going scoreless for the first 66 minutes, the home team finally go on board in the 67th minute thanks to a penalty called on the Azkals after a foul was committed inside the box.
Marcus Lopez sank the penalty to make things interesting at 2-1 with roughly 20 minutes to go.
Azkals skipper Stephan Schrock was quick to respond however, giving the Pinoys back the two-goal advantage just eight minutes later.
Patrick Strauss recorded his first goal for the Azkals in the 81st minute to make it 4-1 and effectively seal the victory for the visitors.
The win marked the Azkals' fourth-consecutive win over Guam, making it a perfect 4-0 in as many matches in their historical head-to-head.
The dominant win was the perfect response after falling 5-2 to Syria last week. The Azkals improve to 1W-0D-1L for 3 points in Group A of the group stages.
Up next for the Pinoy side will be another homestand, this time against Asian powerhouse China PR back at the Panaad Park and Stadium in Bacolod on October 15th.
