The Philippine Men's National Football Team returns to action in the 2022 FIFA World Cup and 2023 AFC Asian Cup Joint Qualifying Tournament with a showdown against Maldives at the National Stadium in Male on Thursday, November 14th.
The Philippine Azkals will be bringing with them a bit of momentum after pulling off a historic draw against China PR last October.
Behind the defensive efforts of ace goalkeeper Neil Etheridge, the Pinoy side was able to neutralize the highest-ranked team in Group A and held them to a 0-0 draw.
Now, the Philippines will look to take down the second-lowest ranked team in the group in the Maldives. The Azkals currently sit at third place with one win, one draw, and one loss, and four points.
The Maldives, meanwhile, sit at fourth place with one win, two losses, and three points.
In three matches against the Maldives, the Philippines hold a 2-1 standing, with their last meeting resulting in a 2-0 win in an international friendly match.
A win over the Maldives will be cruicial for the Pinoys, as they face off against the top-seeded Syria in Dubai just five days later.
Kickoff time in Male will be at 7:00 PM, Philippine time.
