Filipino football club Ceres Negros FC was held to a 2-2 draw by Vietnam's Than Quang Ninh in Group G action of the 2020 AFC Cup, Tuesday evening at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium in Manila.
The Filipino champions found themselves playing catch-up for the first time in the Group Stage after Jeremie Lynch put the visitors ahead with an easy shot inside the box in the 26th minute. With Ceres keeper Roland Muller overcommiting and then getting beat, Jeremie had himself an uncontested shot at the goal.
Late in the opening half, a Than Quang Ninh foul inside the penalty area allowed Ceres striker Bienve Maranon to even things up with a penalty conversion.
In the 62nd minute, OJ Porteria beat two defenders before firing from just inside the box to make it 2-1 for the home team.
A scramble inside the box from a free kick resulted in a goal from Nguyen Hai Huy in the 70th minute however, knotting things up at 2-2.
Neither side managed to come up with a deciding goal as both teams went on to split points.
With the draw, Ceres Negros still remains atop the Group G standings with 4 points off 1 win and 1 draw.
Than Quang Ninh meanwhile scores their first points of the Group Stage, but they remain at the bottom of the standings with one point.
Ceres Negros FC returns to action on Wednesday, March 11th as they host Indonesia's Bali United at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium in the final match of their homestand before closing out the rest of the Group Stage on the road.
