Filipino football veteran James Younghusband (2) has officially announced his retirement from football.
The Younghusband era in Philippine football is officially over.
Less than a year after Azkals star and Philippine football’s leading goal-scorer Phil Younghusband announced his retirement, his older brother James followed suit.
“Time to say goodbye. Thank you for the amazing memories. I have loved playing this game,” Younghusband wrote on his social media accounts, Thursday morning.
“Thank you to my family, bosses, managers, coaches, team mates, opponents and all my supporters who have been part of my professional career. I feel lucky to have experienced wonderful memories and thankful for every moment of my time with my clubs and country,” he continued.
The 33-year old Filipino-British star began his National Team career with the Philippine U-23 squad in 2005 before joining the senior team the following year.
Younghusband appeared in 101 matches for the Philippine Azkals and scored 12 goals. He was also part of some of the Azkals’ biggest moments, including the fabled Miracle in Hanoi in the 2010 AFF Suzuki Cup, and the Azkals’ historic AFC Cup berth in 2019.
Younghusband was also a fixture in the local club scene from 2011-2019, playing for San Beda FC, Meralco Manila, Davao Aguilas, and Ceres-Negros FC.
