UAAP stars Kiefer Ravena and Mika Reyes a.k.a. Miefer put power in “power couple,” being the most bankable from their respective (rivaling) teams.
MANILA, Philippines – Like celebrities, athletes also get the crowd abuzz when their love life is being talked about — so much so that when they get romantically linked with another athlete, or, more exciting, a celebrity. Case in point: The extremely popular David Beckham and ex-Spice Girl wife Victoria. This also seems to be the case for some athletes in the UAAP. Here are some of them who have found love in a fellow athlete or celebrity—all of whom bring in the kilig for Valentine’s.
Gretchen Ho and Robi Domingo a.k.a. RobiChen
The The Voice reporter and athlete-cum-sports commentator and host already knew each other because of their moms who have been close friends since. They were also both Ateneans—he took up health and sciences, she graduated management engineering and was part of the school’s women’s volleyball team. No one knew of the attraction until in 2011, when Robi guested on Kris TV only to be teased by Kris Aquino about his crush on the volleybelle. Since then, he would be spotted watching Gretchen’s games from the sidelines. The two finally revealed their relationship in January 2013, and became more open about it since.
Jeron Teng and Jane Oineza a.k.a. JaRon
Fans were tickled pink when the Archers' main man Jeron visited the actress inside the Pinoy Big Brother house for her 18th birthday held in July last year. Jeron said he met Jane when he guested on ASAP Chillout in November 2013; he had asked for her number and has been in contact since. After the show, Jane would hold her debutante ball in September of which Jeron was her escort. (It was where he reportedly picked the dengue virus that had caused his hospitalization last season.) Without any further confirmation yet and saying their “mutual understanding” is more on their respective careers, the two seem to be getting along as close friends. They are part of the music video for Spongecola’s “Move On.”
Kiefer Ravena and Mika Reyes a.k.a. Miefer
These two put the power in “power couple,” being the most bankable from their respective (rivaling) teams. UAAP Season 77 MVP Kiefer admitted this in an interview on Aquino and Abunda Tonight in September last year, saying they are “exclusively dating.” Their relationship, which seems to be going strong evident on their sweet posts on Instagram, has spawned several fan accounts and even fan fiction online.
Kirk Long and Tata Garcia
As students, UAAP commentator Kirk and Green Archers United booter Tata played for their alma mater Ateneo a few years back. He was part of the team’s baseball and basketball teams while she was on the football team as a player then a coach. Their relationship as a couple ran for five years before sealing it with a wedding in July 2013.
Riki Flores and Martin Reyes
By now, the love story between Magic 89.9 DJ Riki and former UP Fighting Maroons guard/forward Martin Reyes have made its mark among strong UAAP followers. (Riki herself was a softball player of UP and did courtside reporting for her Alma Mater, too.) Their story actually spans more than eight years now, meeting in the summer of 2006 in Boracay—a year before entering college. The two got recently engaged.
JC Intal and Bianca Gonzalez
They may not have met on campus (Bianca was two batches higher than JC in Ateneo), but it was at a Blue Eagles game where the two alumni met for the first time. They were with their own set of friends separately, with the Barako player asking for the host and writer’s number. The two dated, confirmed their relationship in October 2011, got engaged in March 2014 (in a “surreal” proposal at NAIA), and finally exchanged vows twice: in an intimate wedding in Palawan in December 4, 2014 and at a bigger wedding held at the basketball arena where they met—the Araneta Coliseum—six days after.
