Representatives from National Capital Region receive the overall championship trophy of 2015 Palarong Pambansa held in Davao Del Norte given by Davao Del Norte Governor Rodolfo Del Rosario during its closing ceremony.
Big City student-athletes once again flexed their muscles and lorded it over 16 other regions as National Capital Region extends its reign for the 11th straight year after ruling the weeklong 58th Palarong Pambansa held in Tagum City, Davao Del Norte.
Drawing strength on multi-medal sports, NCR found a gold mine in swimming where Sacho Ilustre and Seth Isaak Martin contributed seven mints each in the pool event and were emerged as the most bemedalled athletes in the annual meet for elementary and high school students.
NCR tallied a total of 98 gold medals with 67 silvers and 71 bronze finishes.
Region IV-A (Calabarzon) again failed to dislodge the City bets out of the throne to again remain the bridesmaid with 51-41-49 gold-silver-bronze medal haul while Western Visayas is on third spot with 42-48-41 tally.
It was a sorry outing for the host Region XI as the Davaoenos dropped to notches down from last year’s seventh place finish with a measly 13-23-30 haul.
Rounding up the final medal count positions were Cordillera Administrative Region (24-22-16) in fourth followed by Region X (Northern Mindanao) with 19-14-39, Central Visayas (18-29-29), Central Luzon (17-10-21), Region XII (13-24-28), Bicol Region (9-14-19), Eastern Visayas (6-3-9), Cagayan Valley Region (4-8-10), Region IV-B (4-5-7), ARMM (3-2-5), CARAGA (2-7-4), Zamboanga Peninsula Region (2-6-9) while Ilocos Region was dead last with only a pair of gold medals, four silvers and 25 bronze medals.
