Caitlyn Jenner, who was then known as Bruce, won the gold medal in decathlon during the 1976 Montreal Olympics.
Long before she graced the cover of Vanity Fair and broke the record for fastest person to reach one million followers on Twitter, Caitlyn Jenner, who was then known as Bruce, was considered as the best athlete in the world.
During the 1976 Montreal Olympics, Jenner won the gold medal in the decathlon, which outside of perhaps triathlon, is considered as the toughest sport.
The decathlon is a track and field event composed of ten events, namely the 100 meter run, long jump, shot put, high jump, 400 meter run, 110 meter hurdles, discuss throw, pole vault, javelin throw and 1,500 meter run. To make things even tougher, all ten events are completed in just two days.
Traditionally, the title of "World's Greatest Athlete" has been given to the man who wins the Olympic decathlon. A distinction Caitlyn will always carry with her.
