RAISED FIST. According to the UP Diliman Facebook page, this is the new logo the Fighting Maroons will be using for the upcoming UAAP season.
A month after the new logo they were set to use for the upcoming UAAP season received negative feedback from both the UP community as well as other observers, the University of the Philippines bared on Monday the official logo the school's athletic teams will now carry.
"The raised fist unifies the UP community in the spirit of solidarity. We are one team," the Diliman-based team explained in their official Facebook page.
Last June, UP team management sent ABS-CBN, the UAAP's broadcast partner, an earlier logo they said they intend to replace the image of the Oblation used by the Fighting Maroons.
According to the UP Diliman Facebook page, this earlier logo was only "one of the options" and its "unintended, unauthorized, and unofficial release... created not only confusion, but also resentment."
This in turn led the state university to partner with a volunteer group to conceptualize a new design.
Also according to the Facebook page, the "raised fist" logo has already been approved. ABS-CBN Sports is awaiting confirmation from team management as of press time.
