Basketball star Chris Banchero and collegiate volleyball idols Alyssa Valdez and Mika Reyes led their respective teams composed of sportswriters and photographers to a fun and exciting crossfit training challenge as part of a sports drink flavor launch Thursday at the Gatorade Hoops Center in Mandaluyong.
Members of the press sweated it out in five workout stations to earn points in the challenge and experience the athletes’ fitness routine.
Team Mika killed the competition with the De La Salle star’s squad winning by a mile with a cumulative score of 113.22 points.
Alaska point guard Banchero’s team finished second with 88.63 points, barely edging out Ateneo de Manila volleybelle Valdez’s squad (88.11 points).
Each team has 10 members rotating in five workout stations with the task of completing as many repetitions as possible in a minute.
Participants performed the floor ladder, battle rope, wall ball, burpee and kettlebell workout drills.
“Important talaga para sa isang athlete ang mga ganitong workout para sa strength and conditioning,” said Reyes, whose squad brought home cool prizes but more importantly got the chance to experience how athletes train to keep fit to face the challenge of competition in their respective sport.
“Nakakapagod di ba?” Reyes, who was cheering and giving members of her team words of encouragement to accomplish each task, joked.
The three sports heroes together with DLSU cager Jeron Teng, who skipped the event for a prior commitment, are the newest brand ambassador of the sports drink.
“Alyssa, Mika, Chris and Jeron are top athletes who know the value of working hard to stay in peak form and understand that games aren’t won on the court but in the gym and practice venues. We’re excited to see them inspire more people to pursue active lifestyles and understand the value of proper hydration,” Pepsico Philippines Marketing Manager for Hydration Tony Atayde said.
