Earlier today, Hidilyn Diaz broke a 20-year drought, a record, and the internet.

Diaz, a weightlifter from Zamboanga gave the Philippines its first Olympic medal since 1996, ending a 20-year drought for the country and becoming the first Filipino woman to win an Olympic medal.

Diaz's achievement was preceded by boxer Mansueto "Onyok" Velasco, who also bagged silver at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics. And with all that, the 25-year old has gathered much pride and praise from the Filipinos of the internet, proving that even with all the negativity in our land today, love for country will still remain.

From Mikee Cojuangco (who visited the Philippine delegation a few days back)

To It's Showtime host Karylle, who's apparently a stern supporter of Team #PHI in Rio. Like all of us, of course. But she made the official song of Gilas Pilipinas' Olympic campaign along with her husband Yael Yuzon.

To Filipinos everywhere.

Hidilyn also had her nails done in Rio, where free nail art with the flag design of your choice is apparently available. Her bright red and blue nails were very visible as she was doing her silver medal-winning lift.
