Before another round of Olympic qualifiers in Germany, Michael Martinez will first represent the Philippines in the SEA Games.
Pinoy figure skater Michael Martinez is back in the Pilippines to train for the next and final Olympic qualifier in Germany this September after falling short in the Finland leg earlier this month.
Martinez is polishing his routine even more, specifically his quad jump, which took a hit after years of injuries so he could head to Germany better-prepared.
"I have kasi these boots na dati I just kept falling and falling, so i just recently changed my boots," Martinez said.
Adding to his regimen, Martinez says his coach wants him to lose 10 more pounds, for his upcoming competitions. "I have to lose daw 10 pounds, I will still work out, but just to be lean and strong."
With his adjustments, Martinez is confident of his chances to break through the top 6 to finally qualify for the Olympics.
The 20-year-old skater is now training non-stop, with tournaments scheduled starting next month, from Canada, to Russia, and the U.S.
"My coach said he will really kill me in training. We will be joining some tournaments in the usa in June, so I wll be ready," Martinez says of his preparations.
But before another Olympic qualifying stint, Martinez will first represent the Philippines in the Southeast Asian Games slated in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia this August, where he'll try to bring home gold.
