The Philippines will host the SEA Games once again after 14 years.
The Philippines will host the 2019 Southeast Asian Games, after all.
Nearly a month after sports officials announced that the country has withdrawn from hosting the biennial tournament, they revealed on Thursday that the Philippines decided to take up the responsibility.
"I'd like to thank the PSC (Philippine Sports Commission) and the POC (Philippine Olympic Committee), at lahat ng Pilipino na mahal ang sports, because through all these people's efforts, tuloy na ang hosting natin ng SEA Games," said Senator Alan Peter Cayetano.
The Philippines was initially awarded the hosting of the 2019 SEA Games after the original host, Brunei, begged off due to lack of facilities and manpower.
However, on July 21, the Philippines withdrew from hosting, citing the government's decision to pull out funding and use the money instead for the restoration of conflict-hit areas in Mindanao.
The Philippines last hosted the SEA Games in 2005, when it won 113 gold medals.
