Inaugural Clark Sunset Marathon set on December 9

Around 5,000 runners are expected to drive north to join the 1st Clark Sunset Marathon slated on December 9 at the Parade Grounds of Clark Freeport Zone in Pampanga.
The event features running categories in 5K, 10K, 21k and full marathon, where hefty cash prizes await the winners. The landmark marathon event is expected to attract not only local running enthusiast but also runners from around the world.
“Our goal in the Sunset Marathon is to attract foreign runners and we also expect elite runners to join the race,” said RunRio Events, Inc. representative Andrew Neri Thursday during the press launch of the event at Burgoo SM Mall of Asia.
The winner of the 42K event will receive P100,000 while the second and third placers will pocket P80,000 and P50,000, respectively.
In case an all-foreign podium finish in the full marathon, the top three local runners will still receive cash prizes. Cash prizes are P30,000, P20,000 and P10,000, respectively.
“But if a local runner lands in one of the top three spots, he will receive the respective cash prize plus the cash prize for locals. Meaning, if a local runner wins the top spot he will get the P100,000 cash and the P30,000 for the top local runner,” added Neri.
Gun start of the 42K event is at 4:00 p.m. followed by the 21K, 10K, and 5K at 4:15 p.m., 4:30 p.m. and 4:45 p.m., respectively.
In partnership with the Tourism Board of the Philippines and Clark Development Corporation, the Clark Sunset Marathon aims to establish Clark, Pampanga as a venue of world-class running events in the Philippines.
“The development of Clark International Airport, including the construction of a P12-billion passenger terminal will not only provide running enthusiasts easy access to attend this event, but will also open new opportunities for both tourist and business groups in Clark Pampanga,” said Clark Developmemt Corporation Tourism Promotions manager Noemi Julian, who joined Neri and Franco Bambico of RunRio Events.
